Parish Notes

• Thank you, David Pow, Sharon Armistead and Steve Weinard for the yard and garden clean-up last Saturday!
• September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  To commemorate the Indian residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families and to commit to the ongoing process of truth and reconciliation, we invite all those attending the events at Lheidi T’enneh Memorial Park between noon and 5:00 pm. to wear an Orange Shirt
• Bishop Clara has announced that Rev. George Westgate will transfer to Anglican Lytton Parishes and Scw’exmx (Shulus) Parishes effective November 1, 2026.  We treasure Rev. George’s ministry among us since 2023 and we will miss him and his family. Bishop Clara will visit us soon and begin discussions for our future ministry. Rev. George’s last service with us at Grace will be Sunday, October 18.
• The Westgate Farewell Luncheon will be held on October 17 at noon at St. Michael’s and All Angels.  We have been tasked with bringing appetizers and salads.  If you are planning to attend and can bring either appies or salad, please sign up on the sheet at the back of the church.
• Starting September 15th and going to October 15th, the Interfaith Spiritual Care Centre food drive for the UNBC food bank will begin.  They suggest box cereal and high protein foods such as tinned fish, tinned meat, dried or canned beans, etc. 
• Rev. George celebrates Holy Eucharist at Grace Church on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome.
• Mondays - September 21st and October 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. are the next Monday Prayer Groups at Grace Church.  These Groups consists of one hour of contemplative prayer.
• Grace Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study is back in session.  See Coming Events below for details.
• Forward Day by Day August, September & October are available in the office - $2.00; New Anglican Journal is in and at the back of the Church; Pamphlet for Indigenous Hope Christian Radio also on bulletin board.

• As Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church now worship at Grace Church, we’re excited to let you know about their events, including

  - Food Bank: Tuesdays, 10AM - Noon. Our Saviour’s Food Bank would welcome help from anyone from Grace who has time to offer on Tuesdays.

• Please leave a note in the office or a voicemail at 250-562-5611 or fill out a prayer request form if you would like to keep a person and or family on the prayer list for an extended period of time.
• Bible riddle:  Who in the Bible had no parents?
• All year round we at Grace support several helping organizations including New Hope Society and Shepherd's Corner. New Hope Society provides a drop-in center, food and warm clothing to female sex trade workers and Shepherd’s Corner provides warm clothing and food for inadequately housed people. New Hope clients always need warm clothing, especially footwear and women’s small underwear as well as healthy hand snacks.  Shepherd’s Corner distribute snacks, clothing, especially winter coats, warm socks and boots, and warm gloves. Donations in kind can be put in the baskets at the rear of the church and cash donations can be made through your regular offering.
• We encourage people to sign up to set up coffee and goodies following the 10:00 a.m. service on Sundays.  Sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board at the back of the church.
• We would appreciate if people would volunteer to provide flowers for the Altar on Sundays.  Small plants work great and last a few weeks.  Please let Chris (250 562-5611) in the office or Sharon Armistead (250 964-1251) know if you would like to provide anything.

Prayer for Anxious Times 

This has been a difficult week with violence, threats and acts of hate leaving many people feeling anxious and unsettled.  Communities of faith and others who gather in places meant for worship, learning and community have been deeply troubled by the targeting of people because of ho they are or how they worship, and are carrying real concerns about safety.
 
In the midst of this uncertainty, we turn to prayer.  We seek God’s peace holding one another in care and recommitting ourselves to communities where all people are welcomed and safe.  ELCIC National Bishop Larry Kochendorfer shares the following prayer:
 
God of grace, you have made all people in your image.  Our hearts are heavy with the reality of racism that persists in our world, our communities and our own hearts.  Forgive us for the times we have been blind o the pain of others, silent in the face of injustice or complicit in structures and systems that divide us.  Open our eyes to se the dignity and worth of every human being and to rejoice in the diversity among your children.  Open our ears to hear the cries of those wounded by discrimination.  Open our minds to seek truth and transformation.  Open our lips to challenge discrimination and to proclaim your grace and unconditional love for all.   Open our hands to actively work for equity and peace until every child can live freely, and every voice is heard and honored.  Give us courage to name what is and to work for what should be.  And give us hope that change is possible, for hope is what we do today.
